the things that happened today were different from what usually happens and that is what makes me have tonnes of things to say! so let me begin!
today we had national day celebrations. (we were for the 1st time encouraged to wear red t-shirt but still many ppl just wore sch u) after the standard ceremony, we started to sing the national songs then after the 1st song, novella passed by me and asked me to join the band "train" (i think band was the 1st to start a train but later everyone copied us started forming their own trains). we form an extremely long train by holding on to the shoulders of the band member in front of us and went around the whole quadrangle through the rest of the ny population so there were many sudden stops and i had to slide to a stop each time with the 'resistance force' from junjia who was in front of me so i kept pushing her to make myself stop. (i think she very bu4 shu1 fu2 so i shall apologise here : sorry, jj)
then after many rounds, many band members were either tired or wanted to join the singing so they broke off the train but a few sec2s still went on and went along the drain. there was some water there so i slipped and fell and was so embarrassed and some more we were in front of where the teachers were sitting (luckily they didn't come and scold us for playing and causing danger) but also luckily it was at the end of the quadrangle so i think not many ppl noticed it... boo... so my enthu mood was decreased and some more there was no gd enthu friend with me (as I have said a few days earlier, most of my closer friends are foreigners so they cldn’t enthu with me for my national day, haiz) so later on when the band got separated into 2 grps (coz half of them went to in front of the stage to sing and later on don't-know-go-where and the other half stayed at the side), i had to sing the national songs sort of alone so i was quite sad coz got no one to sing with me. then when abt to sing the 2nd last song, i saw my class so i decided to go and join them but geraldine and laura also didn't really sing out loud (i think all the enthu and active ppl already go and find their buddies to feng1 together, so i this usually quiet but some times (like this celebration) can be enthu and active person only left with my totally quieter friends...)
the celebrations ended quite early, abt 9.45am so i went back to class to continue doing my phy paper 1, asking ppl and finally decided to not think so much and put down an answer that after a bit explanation seems sort of logical. then i started doing the a math revision ex. 6 hw until i felt tired and got stuck at a question and decided to call my mom to see if she cld meet me for lunch at novena sq and shun4 bian4 collect my new specs (yeah!). she said yes which was surprising coz it was only 10.50am. i went back to tell yunshin but she wrote on the board that she went to the library so i had to go there to search for her and tell her which resulted in me being late in meeting my mom which in addition to the delay caused by the need to shorten my new specs further resulted in my being late in returning to sch to meet yunshin and linyan (who had to do phy timed-trial). so i hurried across the bridge back to sch only to find the side gate closed so i had to walk/run a big round in the strong afternn (1pm) sun to get back to class. then to get to linyan's house, we had to cross the bridge again (i so stupid, should have brought my bag along and asked them to meet me at tchs bus-stop).
on the bus (the stupid 961, always make me sleepy or always full and make me stand till so tired), i fell alseep though it was only a short 15min ride then when yunshin got off, i still dozing and linyan had to call my name, so diu1 lian3 again. but they got off 1 stop earlier and furthermore we had to cross the bridge again so i really tired (actually the walking is fine with me but i hate crossing bridges, esp when its the third time within 30 minutes so my legs were really tired but later they recovered).
linyan lives on 2nd floor at hindhede (pronounced as hindi if i didn't remember wrongly) walk in springdale. her younger brother, linxiang, was at home. they really look alike. displayed on their piano were their plaques that recorded their achievementsss. they really very li4 hai4, have so many awardss, and linyan still so humble when i praised her (she topped her class in sec1 and got 2nd in sec2!, i didn't even get anything). then, i used their toilet coz i niao4 ji2 but when i wanted to wash my hands and tried to turn on the cold water tap, it 'squeaked' so i didn't dare to turn on for water to flow out. i tried a few times and it kept s
i just dozed off... really tired after a full day of active activities...
squeaking so i finally decided to turn on the hot water tap but the water that flowed out wasn't hot so i felt so of cheated... nvm. then linyan was going to fetch kaiyun from the bus-stop but while we were wearing shoes, kaiyun was already downstairs but she cldn't get in coz she needed the security pass so she told linyan to throw her pass down then linyan replied that she cld use the intercomm and that ppl don't throw passes down, they use intercomms. this whole episode is so lame...
so we walked to the badminton court and when i saw it, i thought, this is such a gd condo... near sch and there is even a badminton court (usually condos only have tennis courts) and this is a single court in an enclosed building so its totally private and we can play w/o being affected by natural wind and there are fans around so wldn't re4 si3 and its only for ppl living in the condo so wldn't have to fight so much for usage so gd!
but the door quite difficult to open and its quite narrow. i cldn't even walk str. in, have to turn my body coz can only open half of it (its a double panel door but total area is only that of a standard door). a while after we started, linxiang came to join us. yet another embarrassing episode took place about 45 mins after we started. the second after a serve was made to linxiang, he decided to stop playing so i wanted to return the serve but it went over me so i turned around to hit the shuttlecock with both hands on the racket but linxiang actually wanted to return the serve so i ended up hitting his racket. since i was using both hands, i applied a much larger force than him resulting in me hitting his racket off his grip with such a loud 'collision' of the rackets followed by the racket dropping on the floor that everyone bursted out laughing like mad.
haiz... i think i too long never play with boys liaoz (almost 4 yrs so must yuan2 liang4 me) so cldn't anticipate their actions thus resulting in this embarrassment... third one in a single day, 'dotsss'
summary of the 1 hour badminton session...
- i missed quite many times when i tired to hit the shuttlecock at high speed (whatever the proper name is) which was quite weird coz usually when i do this, i have enough confidence to hit the shuttlecock but today, i kept missing... don't know why...
- but the 1st time when i did hit the shuttlecock with my high speed stroke in return to kaiyun, linyan responsed 'wow' in a way that meant that i was too aggressive so i was sort of worried that i stunned them so i asked kaiyun if she was ok and tried to stop myself from using it again (they were not strong players so i shld not have used such strong strokes... i think i was like yi3 qiang2 qi1 ruo4... sorry... but i prefer strong players coz i used to play with mom and uncle cj who were strong players so i can learn from them and use any strokes i like although i wld be criticised abt my weak pts, anyway its a form of learning so still ok lah)
- after the embarrassing thingy, linyan and i played against yunshin and kaiyun, and linyan encouraged me to use my high speed stroke again coz we were losing... linxiang was counting the scores but those drop shots i did (drop shots are my favourite coz i have not much power so can't hit far and high) were not counted... i think they thought that the shuttlecock have to land within the service area to be counted for points but as a more experienced player, i knew that the service area restriction was just for the service stroke and not the rest. for the rest, the shuttlecock just has to land within the opponents' half of the court ie also can count pts for the area outside the service area but still inside the court. (ok... i know i very technical now so i shall here)
anyway i didn't tell them coz i thought i didn't have the 'power' to coz i can't even serve properly unlike linyan and linxiang whose serves produced the cool sound that professional players produced although they also often missed the shuttlecock. i think with some proper training and practice, they cld be really good players.
back in linyan's apartment, after changing out of my stinking shirt, i watch the others play piano and nintendo for awhile before trying to play the piano myself, i played a few notes of mononoke correctly only because i played it in band before and linyan made a positive comment liao, but i know i very lousy as compared to her, but she's so reasonable as to compare me to a beginner instead of her. i don't think i am able to do that but i shall learn to, hopefully. then kaiyun tried to help me learn to play the piano but me this lousy person cldn't use her help well. i think i'm just not the music type of person... ppl help still can't learn... so she took over the piano while i tried out linxiang's guitar (he lent kaiyun before he went out for lessons). after strumming the guitar, just producing noise without making any music, i sat on the sofa to watch the nintendo game. linyan went away so after yunshin finished her game, she offered me to play.
its the funniest game i have ever played. played on nintendo gamecube, super smash brothers melee was a game with TOTALLY FUNNY characters and the graphics were fabulous!!!!! the funniest character was Mario when i press down and he squat down and did some funny actions that my lousy vocab doesn't allow me to describe. have to see it know how funny it is. there are also others like a shadowlike man, pikachu and many others but i didn't like the battle arenas where my characters easily drop off and die. i laughed until linyan was laughing at my expression but the others didn't laugh so much. for linyan and yunshin, maybe its bcoz they have already played it many times but for kaiyun, who laughs at almost everything, maybe its bcoz she doesn't really like this type of games.
the game is designed in such a way that when u press pause, u can zoom in on the individual characters to see them better or to see where they are. so whenever the pause button is pressed and we get to see the zoomed in graphics, its really cute.
once, yunshin was trying to get her (favourite) character, ‘link’, to do a show off action so she paused it to show the close up and then i warned that a car was coming (coz i saw the signal just before she paused) but link still got knocked down then they kept laughing abt it (and kaiyun kept repeating that i had just said “there’s a car coming). later on, in yunshin's father's car, while he was sending me to bishan mrt, yunshin started laughing again when she thought abt it.
actually just b4 link got knocked down, kaiyun's character kept getting knocked down until everyone cld already expect when it wld happen. so it became so funny.
after kaiyun left, linxiang returned and was surprised that we had not left. then linyan, yunshin and i teamed up against him and managed to beat him but when linyan stopped playing, linxiang was too good for us to handle and we lost despite being the majority.
lin yan and yun shin kept saying i very gd but actually i think i wasn’t really that gd (quite a bit lousier than them) but i think they were praising me on the basis that it was the 1st time i was playing it yet i cld control the characters liao
summary of super smash brothers melee session...
- when i first started playing, the arena was a place where my character had to keep jumping up to survive but i was so lousy that yunshin was so excited and had to keep telling me jump up.
- the 2 more experienced players stuck to their few human characters (link, zelda, marthe fr final fantasy) while we new players hopped around the others
- for almost every character that i chose, yunshin and linyan wld say that it was a gd choice (thanks)
- yunshin kept saying that marthe looked gay. she was also very angry that her link cldn't beat marthe individually.
- linyan was very analytical abt the characters' abilities, like their speed and attack power, unlike me, only press the buttons and anyhow kick other characters around or jump off the platforms in the midst of kicking others and zi4 sha1 (that's why i didn't like arenas that have short platforms but they did coz they found it challenging so i kept quiet, don't want to shao3 xing4)
- kaiyun just went around doing funny things like what she usually do
yeah, finally finishing...
reflections...
i really like it when it’s the 1st time i'm doing sth coz ppl just expect nothing much so when u do better than expected, they will be amazed and praise u (like what happened today) but if its sth that u have done for a long time and ppl expect u to be gd at it, if u do well they will giving those sickening comment that which makes u feel as if its ur fault that u do well and that they will only let u feel better if u didn’t do as well (eg in academic work)... ok, maybe i'm also guilty of such behaviour... i shall try to change (but just my behaviour towards nice ppl, i shan't be nice to bad ppl)... erm... is this right? erm... nvm... i shall go to bed now...
oh, before i forget, i sort of learnt a new word today - deja vu. sense of deja vu
the definitions:
1. Psychology The illusion of having already experienced something actually being experienced for the first time.
2a. An impression of having seen or experienced something before: Old-timers watched the stock-market crash with a distinct sense of déjà vu. b. Dull familiarity; monotony: the déjà vu of the tabloid headlines.

Other Recommended Readings by Marc
The Origin of Species by Charles Darwin – Few books have had as significant an impact on the way society views the natural world and the genesis of humankind.
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell – Gladwell looks at how a small idea, or product concept, can spread like a virus and spark global sociological changes. Specifically, he analyzes “the levels at which the momentum for change becomes unstoppable.”
David Copperfield by Charles Dickens – This is a tale that lingers on the topic of attaining and maintaining a disciplined heart as it relates to one’s emotional and moral life. Dickens states that we must learn to go against “the first mistaken impulse of the undisciplined heart.”
Lolita – This is the kind of book that blows your mind wide open to conflicting feelings of life, love and corruption… and at times makes you deeply question your own perceptions of each. The story is as devious as it is beautiful.
Getting Things Done by David Allen – The quintessential guide to organizing your life and getting things done. Nuff said.
How To Cook Everything by Mark Bittman – 900 pages of simple instructions on how to cook everything you could ever dream of eating. Pretty much the greatest cookbook ever written. Get through a few recipes each week, and you’ll be a master chef by the time you’re 30.
Honeymoon with My Brother by Franz Wisner – Franz Wisner had it all… a great job and a beautiful fiancée. Life was good. But then his fiancée dumped him days before their wedding, and his boss basically fired him. So he dragged his younger brother to Costa Rica for his already-scheduled honeymoon and they never turned back… around the world they went for two full years. This is a fun, heartfelt adventure story about life, relationships, and self discovery.
Self-note: Tip for my future business =D
give employees reasonably high pay to keep them- otherwise they are unlikely to stay loyal.
treat employees not according to how well they treat me but how conscientious they are at work

5Nov11: "Real Steel" w Hl (action packed but not too hardcore for me. i liked that there was the father and son element and how the father eventually softened his heart and especially the part when charlie was having trouble telling max sth and max was so understanding saying "Don't worry. Your secret's safe with me." touching and demonstrates true fighting spirit)
12Dec11: "50/50" w L (adopting her words - a heavy topic put across in a lighthearted way, but not taking away d meaning. most of it was rather hollywood-ish trashiness but there were a couple of punch lines "u can't change ur parents, but u can change d way u respond to them.")
25Dec11: "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" w KY (ultimate action packed! super tense almost throughout the movie, and interesting Tom Cruise made it such that not everything happened smoothly - he would jump and misland and get all sorts of injuries..it's really the courage to jump without hesitation even though you are not sure you'll be alive after that. KY loved d movie and said she would watch it again!)

22Mar12: "The Iron Lady" w KY (really love Thatcher's sharp words. inspiring and thought-provoking, tho i was still left uncertain of what to do with my life, the movie is definitely an encouraging one)
29Mar12: "Barney's Version" w SJ (a funny movie of a screwed up life of a man who had 3 wives, smoked and drank but very heartwarming at the same time, the relationships with the dad and the 3th wife - quotable quotes!)
